This one is very close to my heart. Joe and Jess have been my friends for the last five years, and they are such a beautiful couple, inside and out.
They’re sixth-form sweethearts, and after almost nine years together, they got engaged next to this very tree (see photo above) last September. Having spent so much time with these two, I truly appreciate how much love they have for one another and the people around them.
When I’d just started my photography business, Jess was so ridiculously kind and offered to help me out with generating images for my portfolio. Although they already had an engagement shoot planned with another photographer we thought it would be lovely to take some photos to celebrate their engagement in their special place in Trumpington meadows. Jess and I were completely sold on the idea, but I have to admit, Joe wasn’t quite so sure about the whole thing! I appreciated him so much for coming along, and if nothing else it was good practice for the wedding day!
A little nervous start...This was the first time Joe and Jess had ever had professional photos taken. As the one behind the camera, it’s so easy to forget how nerve-wracking it can be: not knowing how to stand, worrying about how your hair is sitting. At the start of the session I could definitely tell there were a few nerves.
But as we went on, they started to settle. We’d chat, take some photos, then chat again, and while I fiddled with my settings and moved around, the two of them just carried on chatting to each other. I think… I think they might even have forgotten I was there for a little while. Those are always my favourite moments. I can’t describe to you how nice it feels to make beautiful photos with your friends, seeing them on my editing screen literally made my heart sing.
Sunset in the meadows...We were blessed with the most beautiful sunset over Trumpington Meadows. The light shone perfectly through Jess’s hair and even twinkled off Joe’s glasses. By the end, they were both so relaxed, and it was an absolute delight wandering through the meadows together as the sun went down.
Thank you, Jess & JoeThank you both so much for showing me so much kindness and trusting me to capture this special time for you, and for supporting my small business right at the very beginning. It means more than you know.
Planning an engagement shoot in Cambridge or the English countryside? I’d love to hear from you.
